Qualifications

Qualifications of the director of rehabiliation position: 

  • 3 years' experience in rehabilitative nursing practices
  • 1 year's experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered rehabilitation therapist license as a Physical Therapist/Assistant or Occupational Therapist/Assistant

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities of the director of rehabiliation position:

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the rehabilitation services of the Facility
  • Assume responsibility for daily staffing and utilization with input from treating rehabilitation therapists, residents' needs, and recommendations from the Administrator
  • Maintain a productive working relationship with the medical profession and other health-related facilities and organizations
  • Coordinate rehabilitation services with other departments as necessary
  • Ensure that all charted rehabilitation progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident's response to the service
  • Involve the resident and family in planning objectives and goals for the resident
  • Review and check competence of rehabilitation personnel and make necessary adjustments or corrections
  • Determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the Rehabilitation Department's needs
  • Schedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), personnel, work assignments, etc.
  • Assist in standardizing the methods in which rehabilitation programs will be performed and/or administered
  • Conduct departmental performance evaluations in accordance with the Facility's policies and procedures
  • Participate in the review and completion of appropriate resident assessment items, review of quality indicators, quality measures, survey results, appropriate to rehabilitation services
  • Make necessary changes that correct identified or potential problem areas
  • Maintain an excellent working relationship with other department supervisors and coordinate the rehabilitation program to assure that rehabilitation services can be performed without interruption
  • Make daily rounds to assure that rehabilitation personnel are performing required duties, and to assure that appropriate rehabilitation programs are being rendered to meet the needs of the resident
